hey idk if you’ve answered this before but in your opinion what is the “scariest” and or deadliest animal?

why-animals-do-the-thing:

Oooh, a fun question!

Deadliest is the box jellyfish – touching it it will straight up kill you.

Scariest is totally subjective to whomever you’re asking, and what they’re afraid of. Some people are really scared of big predators like tigers, but I’ve spent enough time around them that while I have a healthy amount of caution in their presence and I’m very aware they can kill me easily, I’m not scared of them, ya dig?

Honestly, for me, it’s parrots. I can’t read their behavior, which makes me uneasy around them, and they’ve got a sense of humor and ability to be tempestuous that I don’t like combined with the ability to crush fingers in their beaks and a minimal amount of body language I find discernible.

Statistically, the deadliest animal is the mosquito, not for its own abilities but for the pathogens that can breed in its body.

Deadliest for its own ability would be the box jellyfish or a similar jellyfish, since coming into full contact with one will probably kill you very quickly.

Broad Shelled Turtle (Chelodian expansa)

Turtle Feeding Cam! Quick video of a rehab guest, a large female Broad Shelled Turtle (Chelodina expansa) whom we called Shelderina taking a decent feed. It took her some time to settle in, rejecting all food initially, but after a few days and some different food items she started taking small feeder fish and crays. Here she’s snapping up bigger items and looking around her tank for more!

reddit-tales:

What secret will you take to your grave?

In Dutch, when you boil an egg and then place it into cold water to make it easier to peel an egg, it’s called “to scare” the eggs.

One day when I was about 6 or 7, my mom asked me to “scare” the eggs. So, little joker I was, lifted the lid of the pan and yelled “BOOO!”

My mom cracked up and has been telling this story ever since, for over 20 years. She’s come to love the story and still truly thinks that I wanted to really “scare” the eggs. Truth is I knew what “scaring an egg” meant and only wanted to make her laugh because she was in a sad place and time back then.

It’s made her laugh for over 20 fucking years, that means it’s the best joke I’ve ever pulled off and I’d die before I’d let her find out I was just kidding.

@heavyweightheart you need a laugh/cry right?

‘Raw water’ is the latest pseudo-scientific craze that could make you sick (The Verge, 1/1/18)

Proponents claim that raw water’s health benefits include naturally occurring minerals and microbes. But the reality for any inadequately treated water from the tap or a spring is that those minerals can sometimes include arsenic, and those microbes can be deadly.

This immediately reminded me of the “Water Fluoridation” scene in Dr. Strangelove.  I thought that movie was only satirical, but apparently not.

i’m not good at market predictions but i’m hoping 2018′s hottest trend in silicon valley is cholera. or getting punched in the mouth by every person on earth who doesn’t have access to safe drinking water. either works.

Water does not “go bad” unless it’s full of bacteria and/or algae. Neither of those things are good for you. If your water has enough bacteria and/or algae that they multiply to noticeable levels, your water is not safe drinking water.

You WANT dead water.

Yes, the transplants work – there have been 8 successful pregnancies so far.

No, they aren’t excessively dangerous – no one has been harmed or killed.

No, it doesn’t mean the fetus will be half yours.

Yes, they do take uteri from living donors – the living donor transplants have been much more successful than those using deceased donors.

No, you are not in any danger of having your uterus harvested after your death against your will, even if you are registered a an organ donor.

No, it isn’t “impossible” to transplant organs and tissues between sexes. The sex of the donor is not a barrier to transplant for other organs and tissues and trans men have been able to carry healthy pregnancies to term despite years of HRT.

Read a book and grow up.

No, “male” pelvic girdles aren’t “too small” or “the wrong shape” for a uterus to fit in. It’s an internal organ about the size of a lemon; as it expands it will grow upwards and outwards, just like in cis women; and no one is expecting a vaginal delivery.

No, they don’t transplant the ovaries or vaginal canal along with the uterus. The embryo is created via IVF and it will not have the donor’s DNA unless they are also the egg donor.

No, a uterus on it’s own isn’t “useless” without a “female” body to magically imbue it with baby-making power.
