I want this in every library, everywhere. After all, some kids won’t even google this stuff because they don’t want parents/siblings checking their browser history.
This is really awesome. And if you’re not familiar with how the Dewey Decimal system works – the numbers subject-based, which means these numbers are applicable in EVERY library. So if you see something you want to research on this list – look for those same numbers in any of your local libraries.
I keep seeing posts encouraging people who want a vegan pet to get a hamster. They aren’t herbivores!
They really benefit from having some cooked animal proteins in their diet like boiled plain chicken, turkey, beef, some fish, and boiled eggs as well as bugs (kill the bugs first. Sometimes live bugs get pouched and cause impacted pouches by biting them)
So if you want a herbivorous pet, please do not get a hamster. Do your research and find one that is truly a vegan pet.
RATS ARE ALSO OMNIVORES
Domestic mice are also omnivores!
Try a rabbit. They need as much care as a dog, but they’re good pets when properly cared for, and they’re herbivores.
I want to get some pet quail after college, so I got this too-small-for-birds birdhouse and decorated it.
The roof and insides are done in Stuart Semple’s Black pigment. You can see it’s not quite that black-hole-in-space level of darkness, but, unless I shine a light directly into the entrance, the inside of the birdhouse looks like it doesn’t exist. It’s a pretty neat effect.
My lamp wasn’t kind to the coloration here. It’s a bit sparklier in person, and less dingy. The black marks all over it are intentional, it looked too plain otherwise, and they look a bit better in person.
The perch was missing, so I replaced it with a pencil that slides out to keep track of things.
Isopods (technically crustaceans, but eh), millipedes, preying mantis (some species are easier than others – you’d want to make sure you get a beginner’s species), uhhh…. Ants? That’s about all I got. There are some beetles that are popular pet insects, like sun beetles, but they can fly.
I wish I had more suggestions, inverts aren’t one of my strong points! I hope this helps a little though. 🙂
Beetles! I have some blue death feigning beetles (asbolus verrucosus) but there are a lot of different types! Take a look at bugs in cyberspace if you want to see some cool, less common ones.
Most beetles, especially ground beetles like the above and darkling beetles, fly very badly and won’t get in your face. Rhino beetles are also cool.
How about domino cockroaches? You’d never know they’re roaches from looking at them.
