They’re probably not even dogs they could be derived from any number of species but still fill the same niche provided it’s something with social/family behaviors

Cats! That’s basically what a hyena is, after all, and modern housecats are social. People treated cheetahs like dogs for awhile, still do in some parts of the world.

Alternately: birds! Fourish feet tall, kinda like small moa, sharp beak and claws, pack-hunting behavior. Guinea fowl on steroids.
