Almost NOBODY knows this, because people don’t bother to simply show you a fucking image like this in school so before i saw this on tumblr i thought a turtle was simply a loose animal in a shell like a snail
A snail isn’t a loose animal in a shell either. Hermit crabs are one of the few animals I can think of that are technically loose animals in shells.

these are all ladies.
males look like every other beetle out there, but are the same species. it was a huge mystery for the longest time what the hell a male even looked like, or if there even were males, until they issued a money reward and someone brought in a mating pair. and they couldn’t believe that they were even of the same species because of how different they look.
we have an irl species of giant monstrous ladies and tiny dainty plain males
I didn’t film it [I wish I had] but last night I opened the terrarium to feed the gals and Moontoad got so excited she jumped right out the open door, bounced off the chest on the floor underneath and landed right on the carpet, then had the audacity to strike my finger when I went to pick her up
