So they found this adorable little dinosaur called Anchiornis

See those feathers? The skeleton they found was so well-preserved that scientists were able to examine the pigment cells in the feathers and compare them to those of modern day birds.

And they were able to do this with such accuracy that they know the coloration of this dinosaur. In life it looked something like this.

It just baffles me that we know the color patterns of an animal that has been dead for 161 million years

gentlesharks:

47 Meters Down is a new horror movie coming out June 16th. The movie follows two sisters who go cage diving with Great White sharks, only to have the cage break. The two sisters end up on the ocean floor and get surrounded by “man-eating” and “scary” Great Whites.

As the Great White population continues to plummet, this movie will only contribute to the fear of Great Whites and other shark species, similar to how Jaws did. Please consider avoiding this movie and speaking out about how it will impact the population of Great Whites and other sharks.

Yesterday we went for a walk to Šeškinės Ozas (”ozas” is the lithuanian for the geological-geographical term “esker”, and it means it used to be a glacier in here! :O).

There was this tiny pond absolutely full of tadpoles, who were very friendly and came right away to taste my finger XD Til now, i had only seen tadpoles on the tv or books, and the ones from @stickyfrogs, so i enjoyed a lot meeting these ones! ^_^

Sadly i don’t know that much to know how old they are or which species they belong 😦 (but there is a total of 8 frog and toad species in Lithuania, so, not that many to check! XD)

I’ll try to come back there in a pair of weeks or so to see how they’re growing 🙂

Cute!

Tadpoles are very hard to identify when they’re that small. Wait a couple weeks, then they should have patterns that make them easier to identify.

hey i dont suppose you (or any of your followers) know if there’s anything you can buy to keep a tank heater going in the case of a power outage? I recently lost a betta due to temperature shock bc the power went out overnight and the tank dropped 10~ degrees bc it gets really cold here. I’d love to get another betta in a month or two but I’m hesitant because although the power doesn’t go out much here, it was still a preventable death for a very healthy betta :(

amazingpetenclosures:

I’m really sorry to hear about your loss 😦 Unfortunately, other than a generator, I wouldn’t know… But maybe there are other options out there, or small generators.

Anyone have ideas?

Insulation!

Put Styrofoam around the back and sides of the tank, like the material coolers are made from. Heck, cut up one of those coolers they mail things in.

There are probably battery-powered heaters somewhere? There are definitely backup batteries. You plug the heater into the backup and the backup into the wall, and the backup runs electricity up to the heater but also stores electricity until it’s full. When the power goes out, the backup runs the heater off of its stored electricity. I have one for all my filters.

there’s a big difference between “food waste” as in “farmers destroy tons of food to avoid exceeding quotas” or “supermarkets throw away this much edible food because it doesn’t sell”

and “food waste” as in “it is not actually within the capacity of humans to perfectly predict and track household food consumption, so a certain amount of food per household inevitably goes bad and has to be thrown out every year”

the idea that food waste is the product of thoughtless consumers rather than corporate greed is really insidious

prop. I-1552, a bill restricting trans workplace and academic protections, as well as REQUIRING A TRANS PERSON TO DISCLOSE THEIR ASSIGNED GENDER AT BIRTH BEFORE ENTERING A PUBLIC RESTROOM, is 2/3 OF THE WAY TOWARDS GOING ON THE BALLOT. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST VOTE MIDTERMS. WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS BULLSHIT IN OUR LEGISLATURE. THIS IS A DISGUSTING AND COMPLETE DISREGARD FOR OUR HUMAN RIGHTS.

Proponents are getting support through various community centers by touting it as a “”“”“”“women’s safety measure” “”“so please, spread the word in your spheres to unmask it for the pile of shit it is.
