The Peacock Katydid resembles a dead leaf when its wings are closed. But, its eye spots and vivid colors are displayed when it feels threatened.

Emerald Toucanet, Aulacorhynchus prasinus

Today, on “Birds That Are Hard To Photograph Bc They Keep Biting Me”, is a teensy-tiny powerhouse of fury: the emerald toucanet! These beautiful birds are mostly frugivorous, but they’re also notorious net poachers. It didn’t happen this year, but apparently toucanets have been captured in the past with half-devoured hummingbirds in their bills. YIKES.

The North American Branch Horn

Perhaps the most common of unicorn in the country but perhaps the most overlooked. More often mistaken for a deer or strange tree than a unicorn. Only the keen of detail can spot these creatures as they roam their vast wooded territories.
A solitary unicorn that prefers humans with a pure heart toward nature. They will often be found around nature reserves or defending their land. Occasionally blessing a lost human with their guidance back home.

Fond of: Children and woman, gifts and/or offerings, unprocessed honey

Natural predator: Mountain lion

Approach-ability: 8/10

So, I was pretty unhappy with the Luden’s facial design in my last concept post. He appeared too flat to me. This pushed me to try and add more color to him. Not intensely, but in a way that’s fleshy and almost organic, to contrast against his synthetic being~.

The synthetic hair, as well as the red tints, I thought, really gave him the organic appearance I was looking for. I also think it makes him appear more humane, but also more~… not~? If that makes any sense~.

I’m trying to develop my own aesthetic. I want to bring organic and synthetic together in a strange combination, that is both horrifying and pretty, in a strange way. I’m also really digging the color combination of white and red. It used to be one of my least favorite color combinations, but it turns out, if you do it right, it looks terrifically elegant~.
