This is an albino gray tree frog (Hyla versicolor) which is normally – you guessed it – gray in color. The lack of melanin gives it this pink hue… which to me makes it look like it’s made out of BUBBLE GUM!
I wonder how the Indian balloon frog [Uperdon globulosus] got its name? This narrow-mouthed toad can be found in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. It goes by a variety of common names, all of which reference its habit of swelling its body with air to appear more intimidating to predators. Images by Arkive.org and Mokhlesur Rahman.
The Usambara big-fingered frog [Probreviceps macrodactylus] is a beautifully colored little frog endemic to Tanzania. Tropical, subtropical, and other moist lowland forests are their preferred habitat. Image by Michele Menegon.
Summer is upon us folks, and this year’s looking to be a real scorcher. This Bushveld rain frog [Breviceps adspersus] wants to remind you to all stay cool this season. It’s okay to use your hind legs to dig a little hole in the moist soil to sit in. It’s not weird! In fact it’s great exercise, helping to give you magnificent glutes and hammies while the rest of your body remains a perfect sphere.
