Eggs, a Betta albimarginata, trying to show the panda corydoras out of camera view who’s boss.

I love these guys! They’re a wild betta species, but most in the trade are captive-bred, and they’re relatively easy to breed. They can be kept in multiples, as they aren’t particularly aggressive, due to not being bred for fighting like pet store B. splendens formerly were.

I used to have two pairs in a 30 gallon cube, and the two males set up territory on either side of the tank. If one got into the other’s space, they’d flare and circle a bit, but would leave it at that. The females swam freely between the territories.

This is a farowella catfish, also known as a twig catfish. They get about 6-7″ long, but have a low bio-load due to being so slender. They eat algae, bio-film, and driftwood, and have a pleasant habit of sitting on top of things instead of hiding under everything like plecos do. A 30 gallon tank should be enough space for them, they aren’t very active, but they do need some open space because they’re very stiff and bad at turning around.

I got some good pictures of my new Molly.

He’s so gorgeous.

For anyone wondering about the coral in the background, mollies can be acclimated to fresh, brackish, or salt water. They also eat algae, and they’re one of the few small algae-eaters you can buy for a saltwater tank that don’t tend to bite at corals.

And sometimes you get gorgeous ones like this.

@why-animals-do-the-thing not that I think this is hurting the fish, but is it really enrichment?

Anything novel being introduced to an animal’s environment is technically enriching, so yeah, they’re not incorrect in calling it that. It’s definitely not something anyone would plan as enrichment for a fish, though. It’s likely mostly meant to be silly instead of educational.

The fish was probably interested in it, too, it’d be a strange taste and texture and catfish have very sensitive mouths designed to inspect tastes and textures.

Yes…you passed the typing test. A Searobin searches for food with his finger thingys or dexterous fins #wierdnature #predatoryfish #rocketlooksforhiscontacts #petsofinstagram #fishofinstagram #monsterfish #monsterfish #oceanlife #saltwaterfish #strangenature #aquariumfish #aquatic #reeftank #reef #nature #livingart #naturephoto #fish #pet #mypetmonster

Searobins crawl on their fins instead of swimming along the bottom, and they can croak! Weird lil fish, they’re great.
