Glofish tank update!! I rescaped today. I’ve been fighting high nitrates and algae because I haven’t been paying attention to the amount I’ve been feeding.
-Glofish are not dyed; they are selectively bred fish whose ancestors were injected with a jellyfish gene to detect poor water quality-

The blackish-grey ones are what they look like in the wild, the two white ones are selectively bred for no pigment, and the rest are genetically modified for those colors. They’re perfectly healthy though may be a bit inbred at this point. If left to breed the bright colors tend to eventually fade, but they do breed adn do produce colored offspring.
This is a really good idea because it gives the goldfish an area of sand to play in, without the sand being all over the place to interfere with potential cleaning efforts.
