I love how dog behavior can be so breed-specific.  Like, sure, it makes sense to me that broad-stroke things like “this one is more friendly, this one is more alert” can be genetic.  But apparently there is a combination of genes that codes for “chase prey animals into a tight herd but don’t attack them.”  And a different combination of genes that codes for “run after things, pick them up gently, and take them to a person.”  It’s not just training; you can see these behaviors even in little puppies that have never been exposed to the situation before.  I think that’s delightful and kind of mysterious.

One of the most delightful things about my roommate’s new corgi is that even though he’s two, he never really had a chance to really run and exercise his herding instinct as far as we know (he’s a rescue). Roommate got him an Indestructible Ball about as tall as he is and he is SO. HAPPY. to chase it full-tilt around the backyard, nipping at it and herding it around despite never having learned to do that, specifically.

The Best ATM Withdrawal Defense

I’m here for women with powerful dogs!

My land lady is a 90lb 88 year old woman with 5 full grown Rottweiler boys. They sit around her when she gardens and watch her like the secret service. If you show up to pay rent they all stand up and stand between you and her.

It’s intimidating to have 5 pony size boys all staring at you until she stands up realizes it’a you and walks to you.

My favorite part is she wades through them like swamp water saying in her cute old voice ‘move’ ‘move please’ and each one she nudges to move wags his whole body at her touch and stumbles out of the way like he’s been knocked over by a truck. It gives me life paying my rent.

worth watching for the end

yo what tHE FUCK ¡

Interesting fact these two are playing but they are using play behaviors of their own species so they dont really “match up”!

Dog – is “bowing” and using open mouth “bites” as forms of play

“Play fight with me!”

Cat – is giving the little paw bats they use when playing with kittens

“Cute kittens get booped!”

They are both trying to engage the other in a playful way but not understanding the others responce.

The dog is like “you smack so no play? but not hard smack and no bad noise so not angry?”

The cat is like “why you jump around? open mouth but no chomp? no hiss so is okay?”

And then they sort of settle with a kind of communal grooming gesture they both understand!

Dog: no play? okay i lay… we calm now friend!

Cat: sad? no play? is ok i luv u weird kitten!
