The long-tailed slug, or ninja slug (Ibycus rachelae), is
a type of semi-slug, being somewhat intermediate in appearance between a snail and a slug. Semi-slugs have a partially visible shell, but the shell is too small for the body to be withdrawn into. Found only in the state of Sabah in Borneo, the long-tailed slug was first described as a new species in 2008.(xxx)
A very unique entry in the realm of the roses. The appropriately named wingthorn rose, is grown not for its flowers, but for its showy thorns. The thorns start off bright red on new growth and are actually quite pliable at this stage, it’s when the canes age further that they become brittle and hard. At first glance the flowers appear unremarkable but they actually have only four petals when roses usually bear a minimum of five… Yes, that’s a big deal!
Journal Entry 2: “Got lost after a few wrong turns on the trail. I was looking for any landmarks that might tell me my location on the map but I happened to find a lone Thri-kreen’s camp. He’s a hunter and is as calm and beautiful as a sunset. It would be dangerous to wander the woods alone after dark so he’s offered me a place in his camp to sleep for the night. I’ve never been one to pass up generosity, I look forward to spending the evening with him.”
