I’d love to see a Classic Fantasy Thing where the stereotypical personalities are mixed up.

The halfling thief is stoic and serious.  The barbarian is bubbly and cheerful.

The lady magician likes ale and headbutting things.  The dwarf sings gentle lullabyes and walks softly.

The thinly-veiled-fantasyworld-version-of-a-Native-American has a wicked sense of humor.  Constantly plays pranks on the rest.

The Normal Farmboy Of Destiny plans to join up with the villain at the first chance he gets; world domination sounds excellent.

The villain treats his underlings with respect and compassion.  His hot daughter gets both medals of honor and surprise birthday parties, and she wouldn’t dream of siding with his enemies no matter how nice and/or handsome their leader is.  She and Dad want to take over the world so they can improve it.

Unicorns stab people.  A lot.

Wizards love sharing their knowledge and only use riddles as brain-teaser exercises and not to rely important information

Barbarian hordes take over villages by building schools and wells

A trans man/woman joins an adventuring group, it isn’t some weird ploy to be closer to a love interest, and the group knows and is accepting of their identity

“Sword in the Stone” is a fair game where you can win stuffed animals

Princesses duel for the right to marry the prince

Regent of country raises the young prince/princess to know how to actually run things when they come of age

Princess understands the political importance of a marriage alliance and doesn’t run away the day before her wedding

Necromancer raises people so they can say final goodbyes, finish important life tasks, and/or testify against their murderer(s)

Big, tough warrior is a huge baby about getting stitched up after battles because they “hate needles”

Dragons share their wealth with war-torn communities to fund the rebuilding efforts

In case you weren’t aware, sting rays are basically puppies.

oh hey I know these guys! they’re in a little tide pool at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and they’re super sweet. If they see you standing next to the pool they’ll jump up out of the water and splash you until you pet them

after what they did to steve? nah

steve startled the ray, took the blame, and forgave it before he passed away. if he can forgive em so can i

@adhesivesandscrap

Besides, stingrays can’t kill you unless you get super unlucky and get stabbed somewhere like the lung, and this isn’t even one of the ones that can be a serious issue. Looks like a bat ray or a cownose ray- small-barbed, open-water swimmers. The dangerous ones tend to have larger barbs and sit on the bottom, often buried. People get stung by stepping on them. Most places with touch tanks keep the barbs trimmed down, in any case.

And they do really seem to enjoy petting!

look I understand you are somehow superhumanly unafraid of animals at large but a bloody amblypygid? really? I just went to see what it was and looked at a video and I will not be sleeping now.

They’re harmless! No venom, no stingers, nothin’ but big spooky hands they keep hovering over their faces like they’re gasping at some especially juicy gossip.

I love whip scorpions! Long-armed flat babies.

They’re no more dangerous than little crabs, really, they just have pincers. Unless you’re a bug smaller than them, no worries.

Oh, and they eat cockroaches, so that’s something most people like.

I accidentally cut off part of my cats whiskers when I was trimming a matt off his neck and he was wiggling too much, I googled what would happen and the results said that if the whiskers are trimmed cats become dazed and confused. He seems fine but I’m scared, is he going to be ok? Should I call the vet?

drferox:

If you are ever worried you should always call a vet clinic for advice, not message some rando on the internet who will be online goodness knows when.

But you cat will probably be fine without half his whiskers.

Cats use their whiskers to help them figure out their surroundings. The whiskers themselves are just stiff hairs, but the bases are very sensitive. Among other things, they use their whiskers to size up holes and figure out if they’ll be able to fit through said holes. Cutting off all a cat’s whiskers may be something of an issue, but trimming a few shouldn’t be a real issue. They’ll eventually be replaced by new, full-length whiskers.

But yes, call a vet clinic in future. It’s free and probably faster than asking random Internet folks.

Sometimes I lose my appetite for days or weeks – even the foods I normally crave become as appealing as eating paper towels. It normally goes hand in hand with sensory issues with the food. These are some of the tricks I’ve learned to make sure I get enough nutrition anyway

  • The first and most important thing is you need to remember that eating anything is better than eating nothing. You may need to suspend your normal standards or rules – eating foods that are less “healthy" than normal, eating the same thing over and over gain, or just not enjoying your food as much.
  • Energy (calorie) dense foods like nuts or energy bars are really helpful, especially if the actual process of eating is unpleasant. Sometimes its really nice to be able to eat a meals worth of energy in under a minute
  • Chewing gum helps me get my appetite going – If I am trying to get myself hungry for a meal I will often start with gum 30-40 minutes before.
  • I rely a lot on eating a little of something I’m comfortable with to pique my appetite and moving to a different food group afterwards. Eating the first thing is always the hardest – I find after I start my brain realizes that food is ok and I can move onto larger portions or a different food.
  • When I eat something sweet I tend to crave more sugar later. So I use this to my advantage and have a small portion of something with some sugar in it and then wait to be hungry for more. Sometimes I will try to eat something a little more nutritious the second time, others I just have more of whatever was finally able to pique my interest
  • For the same reason consider other foods you find hard to put down. I’ve heard that things with both carbs and fat in them are the most “addictive” and I use that when I’m struggling to get enough to eat. It’s ok if this is a “junk” food – remember eating anything is better than eating nothing
  • Ginger tea or ginger chews make my stomach feel better
  • Keep track of your food. It can be really informal, like making sure you don’t skip meals, or it can be some other strategy of keeping a food journal or counting calories. You don’t need to be super precise, it just helps remind you to eat when your body isn’t sending the right signals
  • Look at “food porn.” Scrolling through a food blog you love on tumblr or watching a cooking show can be a good way to get your appetite going
  • Have a nutritional drink like an ensure can help you make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need without much thought. I find ensure is best very cold or on ice.
  • Look for foods or categories of foods that seem easier to tolerate than the others. This might be something you know is easy on your stomach, something of a certain texture, something hot/cold, or just a favorite food.
  • If there is a food that you find less unappealing than the others, or feels “safe” to you go for it, even if you’ve eaten it many times in the last few days. I even find having eaten a food or meal in recent memory helps convince my body its not gonna be harmful

Junk food is better than nothing.
