This is probably the cutest

This is the perfect pet for people who want to keep a small container of water with something pretty in it. Even though it’s a plant and not a fish, it’s way cuter than a sad, cramped betta- and less maintenance, too. A marimo is perfect for that pretty aesthetic or your college dorm room. Want a mason jar aquarium? A marimo will be perfectly happy in there. Want a fishbowl with pretty rocks? Get a marimo, or even a few of them! I can’t overstate how wonderful and cute marimo are.

Some more pictures and details about my dads dart frog tank.

This tank is home to 5 Dendrobates Tinctorius
4 cobalt and 1 Azureus.
All live plants
The back wall is made of lava rock and great stuff foam covered in coco fiber with a waterfall coming down the back left side

The light is the Fluval Aqua Fresh & Plant 2.0 LED, 36-46" which has worked really well and I’ve seen amazing growth from.

We went with the Fluval A3976 Wifi LED controller because we wanted the automation which makes it really nice. Plus I love having a timer for it to dim during the mid day storm when the misting system kicks on.

@bettsplendens Most of those photos were just after he got the frogs. They were skinny then but plump now

Good to hear! They’re really cute otherwise, and the viv looks great.

Has there been any calling/breeding? I’d get rid of any eggs that result unless you’re 100% sure of the parentage, since you have potential for hybrids in there. if you watch carefully and get lucky with seeing a batch of eggs be laid and fertilized, you can be sure of the parentage that way and get some tads.

I’ve recently become a breeder of Japanese quail! Do you have any suggestions for enrichment for tiny game birds like them? They’re currently being kept indoors because we have an issue with raccoons that ate our chickens in the past, so until we get an outdoor enclosure, they’re being kept in huge plastic tubs (no more than 4 babies in each). We’re trying to breed for a more tame temperament, so any suggestions for that and enrichment would be wonderful! 🐣

amazingpetenclosures:

I know very little about quail… But I would guess that anything that would work for chickens would probably be good enrichment for game birds in general; things to climb, maybe tunnels to run through/explore, novelty items are always good (like a ball or crinkled up paper, or anything new and different from what they have now), different kinds of food to mix things up, and different ways of feeding them (feeding from a bowl vs scattering the food in bedding vs stringing it up somewhere/mounting a feeder etc.) I don’t think game birds tend to really be interested in toys and such, but if nothing else, toys would make good novelty items for them to investigate. Different textures would be good too; a natural tree branch with bark vs a plastic crate, etc. It might also be fun to grow them a little patch of grass or some other safe plant in a tub that you could put in with them, so they’d be able to explore the plant and check out the soil. Different substrates would also be good.

Anyone else with ideas is more than welcome to pitch in!

I’ve been researching these guys.

Above all, give them a dust bath! They’ll love it. A big pile of straw and a heap of dirt to play in is also good. Most of the above suggestions should also work, but especially new foods. Live insects (not collected from outside in case of diseases) would be great toys/treats.

Luna, the leucistic (not albino) male screech owl

Leucism is a condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation in an animal resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales or cuticle, but not the eyes. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in multiple types of pigment, not just melanin.

Hello! I have met Luna in person and he is a beautiful boy who deserves all the love ever.

Please consider donating to the Peace River Wildlife Center, where Luna lives. They are a non-profit animal rehabilitation center with nearly two hundred permanent residents – birds and other animals who are unable to be re-released into the wild – and they admit about two thousand animal patients a year!

I’d highly recommend visiting if you find yourself in southwest Florida! There are so many good birds. So many.

I don’t even know what to do or say re: anyone huffing about Blackfish and believing Seaworld’s stuff when there’s so much evidence of their unending nonsense and just Generally Being Not Great at things. Does the whole ‘Seaworld’s under multiple investigations for lying to consumers, shareholders’, etc not… er, clue folks in?

But Blackfish!

Orca captures happened. Tilikum was a thing. People have died. It’s awful and people should know about it. Sure the film has issues, but they’re vanishingly small compared to the issues that the theme park whose literal purpose of existence is making money has.

mfw.

guess those whales in buckets are Super Important.

This! Really sick of people insisting Seaworld has the best intentions at heart. It’s a corporation. They only care about profit and they have and will continue to fuck over whales and people alike if it makes them an extra $1.

Some people really need to reevaluate their attitudes towards capitalism and corporations.

Also Seaworld aren’t amazing because they do a tiny bit of (bad) rescue operations and donate to conservation work, they’re not doing it because they care about their animals but because they want the public to have a positive view of them so they can continue to treat their animals like shit and brush off any claims of animal abuse against them and continue to make money.

And it works! My god how it works on some of you!
