From Twitter.

is it weird that as i got through the tweet my understanding of it lessens?

If you had a recent ancestor who went through starvation it actually altered their genetics and may have passed down genes to you that make you hold on to fat. So this tweet is more accurate than you’d think.

More on that.

Seriously, my body is expecting the next ice age.

This study of this phenomena is called Epigenetics and it usually occurs when someones grandparent went through something such as a period of starvation when pregnant with your parent as that is when the egg that created you was created and so some genes were potentially turned on or off and metabolism isnt necessarily the only thing affected its a recent area of study so we dont know everythng yet but its awesome!!!

Blossom tires of the nonsense big gruff men bring into her life and meets Hannah in a pub one night. The two go on legendary adventures and marry by the sea.

if i was a pirate captain i would get a movie projector and play a movie on the big sails every friday night for my boys to kick back and enjoy some time off unless we were under attack

Pirates legit did the 16-17th century equivalent of this. When things were slow, they would put on plays, act out dramas of stories they knew, or freestyle. The most preferred model of original productions was courtroom drama: “trying” each other for piracy. The “accused” would list off their many, dramatically and humorously embellished crimes, and be equally dramatically sentenced. Sometimes there was a daring escape, sometimes just a really maudlin death scene, but a good time was had by all.

As we all suspected, pirates are theater nerds.

Half of being a pirate was theater. Blackbeard supposedly lit smokey things on fire in his beard so his head would look demonic and people would freak out and give him their stuff

Why overpopulation isn’t the problem

zoologicallyobsessed:

We’ve all seen media hysteria and general public members attempt to blame the world’s current issues as an issue of overpopulation. But this is just not true in any shape or form. Overpopulation is not the issue, capitalism is.

Firstly most people have seemed to confuse overpopulation with overcrowding. The two are not the same.  Overpopulation is in which a population has began to exhaust all its resources in a closed environment due to the number of individuals in the population being over that of the carrying capacity.

The key word here being CLOSED. The world is not a closed environment. Humans are not locked in a closed environment. Is there an issue of overcrowding in specific areas or cities? Yes, but this is not overpopulation and is not something that should be fixed by controlling birth rates.

Overpopulation is defined also as lack of resources caused by number not by behaviours. Which behaviours are very clearly the issue here not numbers.

The Human Population is Not Growing Too Fast

While the human population is growing, it is not at an exponential rate and growth rates are actually declining. We are currently only growing at 0.77 percent within the next 50 years.

And most of this increase in growth rate is expected to come from developing countries as their life expediencies increase.

We Are Not Running Out of Food

People who claim we are running out of food to feed everyone is wrong, as the world produces enough food to feed 10 billion, and as of right now there are only 7.6 billion people as from 2018.

So is there still people going hungry? This is because of behaviour not numbers.

We’re Not Running Out of Fresh Water

We’re also not running out of water. You cannot destroy water, but you can change it’s state.  Freshwater withdrawals have also grown 7 times the amount since 1900′s while the human population has only grown 3 times. Again 1% of humans hoarding access to water is a behavioural issues not a numbers issue.

I have a question. Doesn’t fracking take water out of the water cycle by pushing it under the bedrock where we can’t get it back?

where was fracking ever mentioned in this post? What’s the point of bringing it up at all, I see zero relevance between me talking about overpopulation myths and fracking

Fewer people would probably be helpful, but most of the problem is the really shitty humans, not all the random ones.

Rex: okay I’m captain Rex and I’ll be in charge of your training for the day… now which one of you is the “Hardcase” kid everyone warned me about?

Jesse, pointing up: he uh, just decided to try on the jetpacks and went straight up sir

Hardcase’s voice, from the sky: please tell me these come with parachutes!

In fact, they do;

This is probably a little controversial, and I can’t blame you if you don’t want to post it publicly, but do you have any suggestions on how best to keep meat/feeder rabbits? Both in terms of animal welfare and efficiency

amazingpetenclosures:

It’s no more controversial than keeping feeder rodents, really. Everything needs to eat. Welfare wise, it’s important that they have the best quality of life they can all the way up until they’re death (which needs to be made as humane as possible, whether being used as meat for people or for other animals). They need adequate space to preform regular rabbit activities and exorcise, they need quality food to keep them healthy, which is important for them but also the health of whatever they’ll be feeding, they need enrichment and stimulation. Efficiency, wise, I really don’t know. I’ve never raised an animal for food… To keep costs lower, you could buy their hey and other feed in bulk (as long as you can keep it from going bad before the rabbits have a chance to need it, of course), and caging/housing could be hand built. Enrichment and the like is easy enough; rabbits love cardboard boxes and oversized toys. Honestly, to keep a rabbit, let alone many, ethically and efficiently, you’re going to have to be willing to put in time and work.

It might be worth finding someone who breeds feeder rodents and see what their suggestions and tips are. I say rodents, rather than rabbits, purely because I think you’ll have an easier time finding rodent feeder breeders. There’s a few around tumblr that take very good care of their feeders.

As usual, suggestions and positive comments that might help anon out are welcome!

If you’re raising them as feeders, kill them humanely before you feed them to something. It’s more humane for the animal, and it removes all risk of the feeder potentially injuring the predator, plus you can freeze the feeder to kill most potential pathogens. Death via predator (especially constrictor snake) is slow, painful, and terrifying. If at all possible, if the predator can by any reasonable means be coaxed to eat a dead thing, feed pre-killed prey and learn how to humanely kill it.

i’m also confused at the idea that pink diamond/rose quartz only started the rebellion so she could play with the humans.

this is my personal theory: yes, her human obsession was of course, part of it. pd was a naive and frankly fucked up individual who didn’t understand that humans are more than toys. but if that was her sole reason for the rebellion…she wouldn’t have started it.

she would have just been satisfied with her zoo. presumably she made it because she childishly thought she was “saving” them, like a kid bringing a bug or small animal into the house and accidentally killing it with improper care.

instead, she wanted to save all of earth, and give it to the crystal gems. she saw the “defective” gems suffering under the diamond authority, and wanted to make earth, her planet, a safe place for them. she felt she could be more like “herself” with them.

(this part of the story was not a lie)

but why not go against her sisters as pd? well, what if in the beginning, she thought she could get more colonies? she’d be a good diamond and build a network of planets, while as rq, she’d secretly turn each of them into another planet for the crystal gems. then, once she had enough colonies of rebels, she’d have enough power to bring the battle to a stalemate, reveal herself, and demand the other diamonds end their oppressive system, peacefully.

but it became clear to her later that couldn’t happen. her feigned inability to crush the rebellion made her appear too weak in the eyes of the other diamonds. they wouldn’t give her another colony. her pink diamond identity was no longer of use to her.

so she was like “fuck it, i can’t change the entire system, i’ll just make earth independent from them and make it a safe place for us gems who don’t fit the mold.”

essentially like a rebellious teenager going “i hate my stupid family, i have no power to change them and they won’t care if i’m gone, so i’ll fake my death and live on my own with my girlfriend, my anarchist friends they disapprove of, and my humans.” she even rolls her eyes like a kid. gawsh, my stupid dictator parents don’t understand that this isn’t a phase.

unfortunately, her naivete caused death and destruction she never could have foreseen. she didn’t realize what an important symbol she was, both as pink diamond and as rose quartz.

but honestly, imagine being born immediately having that kind of power and influence. would you be much better?

that’s the nature of gemkind, and rose clearly envies humanity for not having that kind of burden, for being able to grow up and learn from their mistakes.

in a way, steven was right. rose did make him to fix her mistakes.

because she believed only the empathy of a human, a creature able to grow and change and understand others on a deeper level, could do it. when she met greg, she knew he was the one she’d give up her physical form for. he’d be sure to pass on the compassion and love she could never feel herself onto their son. in that form, she could right her wrongs.

she didn’t understand steven would naturally deify her like everyone else did, and stress about living up to her. because it was obvious to her that no matter what, he’d do a better job than her.

it was never just about the humans. don’t undermine all her intentions.

Whatever she did, however she did it, she tried. Most of the decisions that set this whole thing off were made when she was a teenager, and Pink Diamond never had an opportunity to grow past that. She was Rose Quartz, and nobody treated Rose Quartz like the inexperienced teenager she secretly was.

Her decisions weren’t perfect. Some of them were seriously questionable. Some of them may prove to be even more questionable. But whatever she did, she was trying to do the right thing.

She tried.
