So this morning our roommate told us there’s a squirrel in the house. 

This afternoon Rune and I located the squirrel behind the dryer and managed to successfully scare him out a window. It took about an hour of trying to trap him, trying to grab him with gloves and a sheet and finally just pulling out the dryer and having him parkour his way into the window. We opened it, scared him that way again and he escaped.

There are cage traps you can get for squirrels. You put bait in and leave it alone, the squirrel steps inside, the cage snaps shut, and voila! One squirrel. In case he gets inside again.

People get really territorial about fires.

If you’ve spent much time camping or cooking outdoors, you probably know what I mean. If there are several people around and more than one of them can build a fire, they’ll be micro-managing the process and arguing and making little unnecessary adjustments.

My parents’ house is heated entirely by wood. I’ve been building and tending fires for my entire life, yet my father still compulsively interferes with my process. I pointed this out to him and he grew sheepish and stopped, but I saw it again and again at camp. Younger counselors who had no actual experience building fires would get really possessive and fight for control of the fuel, to the point of actively endangering themselves with lighter fluid or completely unmanageable flames. If I was charged with building the fire, they’d come over and interrupt me and accidentally put it out before it had a chance to catch. Some fucker would drop a huge log on top of the tinder and then scratch his head wondering why it went out.

PLEASE. Building fires is a practical skill and quite basic. It’s not a genital-measuring contest.

Do your research before purchasing a home for your pet, dont just buy what the pet store tells you to. All of the cages and tanks shown above are entirely too small and lack many of the things needed for the pets they are intended to hold, yet they have become very popular in the homes of pet owners who didn’t look into the specific needs of their animals. Don’t make your pets suffer by failing to provide the proper care that they require. If giving your pet a suitable habitat is too expensive for you, then don’t buy the animal, it’s simple.

Would there be any way to safely keep a member of a well-known dinosaur genus (I’m thinking the ones on TV Tropes’ Stock Dinosaurs page) as a pet (assuming it were possible, of course)?

Velociraptors probably wouldn’t actually be that bad. They’re like turkey-sized and may not actually be pack hunters. If they’re actually solitary, treat it like a fox- larger outdoor enclosure, lots of enrichment. An exotic pet, and not the easiest, but doable.
