“Autistics don’t speak our language”

I hate how people treat autistic people as if we’re stupid (especially doctors) sure we can have a hard time understanding body language, sarcasm, idioms, social adequate so on… and sure we often don’t learn that stuff on our own/naturally but we are capable of learning. Learning frome constant exposure and explanation + some studying this stuff (when I was young I spent hours watching YouTube videos about body language and social adequate) doesn’t mean you’re less autistic just means you’re learning your own way.

Doctors love to say that being autistic is like all of a sudden being in a country where nobody speaks your language, well people can learn how to speak a different language that they have no idea about, it just takes more time and is a lot more harder and you might not be as fluent.

Did anyone else spend hours trying to learn this stuff or am I the only one?

I find my personal progress on this stuff feels devaluing regardless of how hard of a time I still have and how hard I had to work to get to where I am.
