🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙! While diving in the deep waters of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, researchers aboard the E/V Nautilus came across more than a THOUSAND octopuses! These octopuses – Muusoctopus robustus – were in a likely brooding posture. They were tucked into nooks in the seafloor with their arms inverted, covering their bodies and white egg clusters.
Yes, those white dots are all octopuses. Here’s a closer view of one of them:
(Isn’t she beautiful? That’s her siphon that she’s showing off. Octopuses squeeze water through their siphon to swim and steer. They also use their siphon to blow oxygen-rich water gently over their eggs.)
The octopuses were near shimmering fluid seeps, which were previously unknown to occur in this region. Near the octopuses, you can see sea anemones, sea snails, and other organisms. This dive was at about 3,000 meters (1.9 miles). We have footage of the octopuses for you, too:
The E/V Nautilus is currently in port to repair its ROV cable, but should be out at sea again soon! Find photos, videos, and information about the expedition here, and visit nautiluslive.org to watch the dives.

2 weeks old and 12 babies are getting too big for the brooder. normally, i would i set up the second box i have and divide them. BUT its that wonderful time of year where i can put these lil guys into the coop with the adults early. over the last week they’ve only been in this brooder at night anyway.
time for my babies to live outside!
had to put Left Beef (the rooster) in a time-out for a while. he lost his fucking mind when i added these guys to his turf. but he’s cool now, still a bit on edge, but he cool.
to be fair, i’d freak out too if someone dumped a dozen children in my house.
I lov the children!
Where did you get that water dispenser? That’s a really clever design, the little lever for them to peck to get water into the bowl. Seems like a nice compromise between the nipple waterers (sometimes hard for birds) and bowls (too easy to get messy).
lol that’s okay! The whites are albinos, so they have two copies of an otherwise recessive gene. I was surprised too because we got none the first litter and neither of the parents have a white ancestor minus one great grandparent.
So since both parents carried a copy of the gene (50% chance to inherit) which needs two copies it gives a kit a 25% chance of being born albino..
Here we see the convergence of genetics and statistics! You can predict how things will go, but sometimes statistics goes “ha, nah, have a batch of 4 kits where 3 display a trait that’s a ¼ chance”.
Here’s a cat with less severe brachycelaphy than the one below. Probably a functional cat! Still not the best skull design, but workable. Definitely cute. Very round.
i saw this on Instagram so now you have to as well
This cat doesn’t look like a cat, it looks like a strange puppet???
That is a cat with extreme brachycelaphy. Bred for an extreme of the smushed face, to the point where it can no longer breathe properly, experiences extreme pressure in its skull, and is going to be very prone to things like a drastic underbite and dangerously bulging eyes. Like pugs. It’s definitely real, the way it moves at the end, but it’s extraordinarily messed up by selective breeding. Poor thing.
minibots making social media posts that are selfies of them posing with the spike of a far larger partner, kinda doing that v-for-pussy gesture with one servo, glossa out and winglets perked, potentially miming sucking an overly large dick with their other servo.
It turns into a Thing, and then branches off in two directions.
Direction one, posing with things that are dick-shaped but are not dicks, in increasingly implausible sizes, all the way up to buildings, acting perfectly seriously as if one is going to fuck that.
Direction two, editing metaphorical dicks into said photos. Mostly people’s bosses. Essentially, you are referring to that person as an obscenely oversized dick.
Then it kinda spills over into real life. Cue a spate of minibots posing either with various dick-shaped objects, or behind metaphorically dick-shaped folks.
Now, if you pose in FRONT of someone, it implies that you are about to get dick from someone, rather than referring to them as one.
There’s a SFW-ish version that’s posing with someone’s crotch panel instead of their actual spike.
Additionally:
Symbiote meme, pretend something that is not one’s dock is one’s dock.
“oh boy, I can’t wait to plug in and be nice and warm and energized” and faceplant into a nook in the wall.
completely straightfaced transform oneself into cassette form and slide into a crack in the sidewalk.
“I’m tired of this I’m going home” and stuff urself into the nearest gap.
bonus points: any of the above done, then the camera pans over to a slightly bemused-looking actual host, zooming in on their ACTUAL DOCK
