Just FYI if you’re writing fiction that’s supposed to be realistic and you involve insects, the following are animals that have colonies with “queens:”

• Almost all ants
• Some bees, which are related to ants anyway
• Some wasps, which are even more related to ants anyway
• Termites, which are distantly related to cockroaches
• Arguably some gall-making aphids
• Some pistol shrimp that live in sponges
• Mole rats
• That’s it!

There are no “queen” spiders or queen roaches or queen locusts or queen lice or queen boll weevils!
