I saw an ask about tanked and just to put my two cents in: I’m v suspicious of them bc I do NOT think that the new owners of these fish know what they’re doing. I saw one where they put multiple aggressive angelfish in a 400g+ tank and I don’t know much, but I don’t think that’s enough 🤔

yeah i definitely agree. the stocking on a lot of their tanks is horrendous (looking @ you, goldfish tank from one of the early seasons)

although the fish owners being knowledgeable about their new pets is less of an issue then i think most people realize. Like…. i’m sure that at least 90% of them don’t take care of their own tanks. like if you’re a professional athlete or an actor or whatever and you can afford to have a huge custom built aquarium I’m sure they just hire people to do maintenance. There are lots of companies that just do maintenance on aquariums for restaurants, hotels, rich people, etc. (in my opinion having someone else do the ‘dirtywork’ kinda takes away from one of the joys of fishkeeping but that’s another thing)

Probably the worst one was where they made this tank that couldn’t have been more than 5 gallons for a little boy who wanted a shark tank, and stocked it with “sharks”, all active, territorial fish that need a 30 gallon bare minimum. Imagine how disappointed that kid’s gonna be when all his sharks die, and when he tries to find out why and learns that the guys whose show he loves gave him a terrible tank. Yes, the “convert an old TV into an aquarium” thing was cute as heck, but they could have outfitted that with a heater and made it a great little tank for a betta named Shark. “A shark tank needs way more room than your house has room for” isn’t a hard thing to explain to a little boy.

Plus the multiple times they give a guy an actual shark tank containing baby sharks that are going to get longer than the tank is wide.
