Grey Parrot fading from Africa’s rainforests

pazdispenser:

In case you needed any further proof that the pet parrot industry is directly affecting species’ risk of extinction, african grey numbers are plummeting by the thousands each year.

Before anybody says ‘that’s why you buy from a breeder instead of a pet store!’ THAT DOES NOT COMBAT THE SITUATION AT ALL. If there is a demand, there WILL be a wild caught supply. Animal trafficking can be extremely lucrative and the legal punishments are minimal, making it a very appealing trade.

These birds should not be in homes, if you care about birds then you will not support this cruel industry.

African greys are wild animals only suited to be kept in captivity by zoos. They are not good pets.

If you’re one of the few people properly equipped to care for a flying perma-toddler who might outlive you, adopt.
