This happens because the crocodile produces tears to rid itself of excess salt, and the butterflies drink the tears to get salt. They learn that crocs make good snack sources, so they land all over the croc face, and the croc doesn’t mind. Happens with turtles, caimans, and other reptiles that live in brackish-to-freshwater.
