This is a kind of sea cucumber. It feeds by waving its sticky arms in the current until plankton sticks to them, then it stuffs its arm into its mouth to remove the plankton. They’re not clever things.

what happens if a thing that is Too Big for their face sticks to them?

If it’s too big, it generally won’t stick very well. They can fit a lot in their mouth, as well.
