It is Monday. go take your turkey out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator. It needs to sit there overnight to start to thaw before you can put it on the counter tomorrow night. I know at least six people last year on my Tumblr feed who were still trying to thaw out there turkey as of mid day on Thursday.

If, like us, you have not bought a turkey yet that is fine. Just make sure when you do buy it it’s refrigerated and not frozen. Or you will be fucked.

IMPORTANT

NOOOOOOOO DO *NOT* THAW YOUR TURKEY ON THE COUNTER.

Thawing your turkey on the counter or in hot water can result in the outside of your turkey sitting at over 40 Degrees Farenheit for a long time, even while the core is frozen. At those temperatures, Harmful bacteria like Salmonella start to multiply, drastically increasing your chances of food poisoning or death for any already compromised people eating turkey.  YES, even if it’s still in the bag.

You can safely thaw your turkey by leaving it in the fridge the whole time, or in cold water, which will keep it too cold for bacteria multiplication.  This article here details how to do it safely and effectively
