friendau:

although i made this sideblog so i can let everyone know how much i love fish, i also made it because i really really need help! my darling betta, phasma, is sick and i’m at a loss of what to do. it’s something to do with her swim bladder, but i’ve tried fasting/feeding her peas/medication and nothing has worked. she swims nearly diagonal, falls to her side when she rests on the bottom of the tank, and overall has a hard time swimming. if any of you betta experts can help me out and point me in the right direction of helping phasma i would really appreciate it!!

How long have you had her? She might be getting old. Pet store bettas tend to be a bit inbred and don’t have great longevity.

It’s getting colder, are you certain her tank is at a safe temperature? You want a minimum of 78F or it can cause all kinds of issues.

If you can make the tank shallower and add more things for her to rest on top of, that should help her a bit.

Can she get to the top of the tank for air breaths without having to struggle?
