A thought: idealy, field medics are strong -strong enough to be able to support or if need be, carry a patient. So, if you’re in a war that spans across a couple millenia and all over the universe (all while trying to minimize fatalities because your entire species seems to be dying out), you’d probably want your medics to be fucking ripped.

Give me more Ratchet throwing Optimus over his shoulder and carrying him away when Prime wants to do something “stupid, risky, and self-sacrificing.” More Velocity carrying Magnus off the battlefield in a fireman’s carry. More First Aid who can hold Fort Max back with one hand. More Knockout literally sweeping Breakdown off his feet and princess carrying him. More Nickle able to lift Tesarus in one hand and Helex in the other. More Ambulon who could effortlessly bench press Overlord.

I have such field medic feels you cannot even

I mean if you’re serious I could tell you about my tiny field medic who turns into a motorcycle. She used to be an ER medic and her name is Triage. She used to just sit there in alt when she was on call and it was down time because there was usually someone else on the cot they kept in the room but tbh she was also just super practical about this stuff and it was good enough for her. Like her name suggests she was the first responder type and actually sometimes would be part of the paramedic response sort of dealio, but obviously she was a full blown medic. Conveniently because she’s tiny she could keep working to triage the patients during transport if the ambulance was cool with it. (they were, between the medic “must fix” imperative and her not really taking no for an answer if there’s stuff that needs doing.)

When hospitals stopped being a thing of society and turned into field operations over the course of the war, she went way more into field work, first response mode full time. She lived up to her name, still took whatever recharge she could where she could (bless her spark in the end she was nesting in a blanket in a corner of a shelf in a supply closet as a last ditch guilty pleasure that she would never admit). She wasn’t the badass kind of heavy armor hauler field medic that this post calls for. Yeah she could pull weight as necessary (no she could not haul patients like a heavy lifter but that’s not what she was for), but she was the quick and dirty fix you wanted before the transport could get to you because you were bleeding four kinds of fluids and didn’t even know what two of them were.

One time, for important reasons that have nothing to do with me being psychotic to my characters at all despite what they would have you think, she had to do a field amputation. Of one of her own hands. This was a matter of fact and so it was accomplished mid forearm if I recall with a cutting torch for expediency and cauterization. She had a delightful shocky conversation about the practicality of the matter before they worked out transport.

Bless her. I miss her so. She has a secret guilty pleasure for a thorough cleaning and re lubricating her hands but rarely took the time, especially as the war continued.

I am now a huge fan of Triage cuz she sounds awesome, especially the badass practicality of the field amputation. I can imagine her out there like, well dammit my hand’s too fragged to save, yeah it sucks but dying sucks more so I’ll just do the thing and figure out the rest later… I have headcanons about Ratchet having to occasionally do surgery on himself during the war simply because how many medics do you see in Optimus Prime’s entourage? hmmmm, looks like ONE! it’s not his idea of a good time or anything but when the shit hits the fan and Ratchet knows he’s gotta be functional above all else so he can keep his Prime repaired, well, a medic’s gotta do what a medic’s gotta do… and it sounds like a mindset Triage it’s familiar with. thanks for sharing her!
