Why does my cat demand I be in the room with her while she eats? She was begging hardcore this morning and I couldn’t figure out why (she doesn’t get treats for begging and never has), until I happened to go into the room where her dish is and she ran over to eat, and the begging behavior stopped. There were 3 other people in the room (who checked and confirmed her dish was full), why did *I* have to be her ‘breakfast audience’?

I wish I could tell you, but I have no idea. Some cats really seem to just have a thing about wanting to have people around when they eat but I’ve never heard a good scientific explanation for it other than it just being a personal preference.

One of our cats does this as well, though generally not with a specific person. If he’s feeling stubborn, he won’t eat until you stand near his food for a moment or two.

Sometimes cats are just weird.
