“fiction isn’t reality” is the laziest justification for making/consuming pedophilia and incest ever
of course fiction isn’t reality! but it doesn’t exist in a bubble! someone made it and someone’s consuming it! so the way someone creates fiction and interacts with other fiction actually literally says something about the person.
like, I for one have never walked out of a horror movie thinking “this writer is a psychopath for killing people in this movie.” because the horror movie writer wrote the movie to scare people with this messed up thing, and I watched the movie to be scared by messed up things. but like, note how both parties acknowledge killing people as “a messed up thing,” because your morals don’t just disappear just because you’re watching a movie. if instead the horror movie writer had written the movie to say “killers are cool,” then they’re messed up. or, if I walked out of the horror movie saying “killers are cool,” then I’m messed up.
you can consume messed up shit. that’s what fiction is about– exploration. but if somewhere along the way your wires get crossed and you go from thinking “this is bad” to “this is good”? then there’s something wrong with you buddy.
basically if a writer gives you a character and says “this character is a 10 years old child” and your immediate response is to imagine / write about / draw this child in sexual situations then… you’re fucked up?? full stop.
