Could a barghest work as a service dog? Just wondering.

Good service animals are naturally calm, intelligent, long-lived, patient, and not prone to high levels of aggression towards other animals. Having your service dog constantly try to eat other humans and/or foretell their deaths could be an issue, as could their inability to cross rivers. Theoretically possible with enough training?

But is a barghest’s fearsome nature a natural feature of the breed, or is it a side effect of being feral? I think you’d have to raise one from a pup to get a better sense of breed temperament.

Most information on them says they’re fairly intelligent. If raising one from a pup results in an attitude more appropriate for a service dog, they might be viable- especially with those shapeshifting abilities. Might make it easier to take the barghest into more public areas if it shifted into something a bit less intimidating.

So I suppose- if one is much calmer when raised from a pup, yes, it would be a possibility. Though people may not be all that enthusiastic about letting it into public areas.
