Are there betta fish websites that don’t condone sororities or claim that a tank below 2.5 gallons is acceptable?
I have Betta Fish Awareness Day: Betta Fish Care and BettySplendens in the links on here and on this post, but they seem kind of iffy now that I look at them. =/
Now that I look at these tanks, 2.5 even seems kind of small…
2.5 is definitely kind of small. I’d consider it acceptable for an old/long-finned betta who demonstrably doesn’t move very much even in a larger tank, and it’s OK as a temporary measure.
IMO, a 2.5g should only be recommended if it’s the only way to get someone to upgrade from a bowl, i.e. they won’t consider anything larger, or if someone literally has no more space than that. If it’s the only option, enrichment becomes even more important. Lots of plants and hardscape to explore, occasionally change things out a bit, put cool things outside the tank, etc.
