Attention all people with blood:

Question: is it possible to have this or something similar and still have regular sitting blood pressure when taken at the Dr’s office?

ABSOLUTELY.

First, being at the doctors’ raises most people’s pulse and BP.

Second, doctors often look at any BP that’s not high and go “yep, that’s fine”. Your normal resting BP might be what would be considered low normal, but it should be higher for you to be comfortable.

For example, my resting BP is 80s over 60s, which is low normal, but I feel better if it’s a bit higher. My mom’s resting BP is the same, but she feels fine at that.

What BP people do best at varies a ton, and, unless you’re constantly on the verge of passing out, it’s hard to look at just one reading and say “something’s wrong”. That’s why you should try out this test. It’s best if done at home, when you’re nice and calm and not hungry, but trying it at the doctor’s office might turn something up even with the elevated numbers. You’re really looking for one of two things:

Pulse goes up further than 30 points while BP stays roughly the same, which indicates POTS or similar,

OR

Pulse goes up too much while BP goes down, which indicates orthostatic hypotension {like me} or similar.

And it’s not just immediately at standing. Stay perfectly still for a few minutes, see if anything happens. It may not be immediate.
