Corn snake care sheets?

I am having trouble finding care sheets for corn snakes, the ones from the pet stores  seem most dubious, where they say that co-habitation is fine and good, which seems wrong? There’s not a lot of info on humidity, temperature, hot spots, or how to determine how much to feed them other than “not too wide”.

Maybe @wheremyscalesslither , @omg-snakes or @why-animals-do-the-thing you can point me in the right direction?  Websites and forums are coming up a little sparse, but i might not be looking in the right areas of the internet. I want to make sure I am fully prepared before I get one.

I asked my husband (who is probably reading this, hi!)  and he didn’t say no exactly, but he didn’t say yes exactly either, so I am cautiously collecting as much information as I can until such a time as I get a more firm “yes this is ok”.  The kids seem cautiously optimistic but don’t want to be around when it is fed, which is reasonable. I figure if i can keep the hermit crabs alive for at least a year then i might more actively pursue it, but that’s a ways off yet.  Currently,  we’ve had 4 crabs, 2 died during their first shed and the other 2 have survived 2 sheds, so like, 50% success i guess. I’ll be happier once I know they’re thriving and surviving more sheds, but I know shedding is a very stressful time for inverts, so i’ll just keep holding my breath every time they go underground. and doing my best to keep the husbandry good.

In the meantime, i’m going to get a houseplant.

Oh maybe @amazingpetenclosures you know a source?

Thanks for tagging!

You’re very right not to trust pet store care sheets, especially ones that say cohabitation is ok. Cohabiting corn snakes is not a good idea. Unfortunately, I don’t know where to find a good care sheet either. There’s a lot of outdated and conflicting info in internet care sheets for corns in specific. The good thing is that corn snakes are an “easy” snake, and are rather forgiving of mistakes.

@i-m-snek has a corn snake and is always very friendly with advice and might know what direction to point you in. Or @omg-snakes breeds corn snakes and probably has a few pointers to offer.

And of course, any of my followers that are knowledgeable in corn snakes are welcome to add their two cents 🙂

Hopefully you can get some answers. Good luck!

Not sure about snakes, but for your hermits, humidity. A ton of humidity. They’re tropical. I’m guessing you know that, but just in case you don’t, humidity
