Don’t draw porn of these kids!!!! They’re kids!! I know y’all nasty as hell but leave them alone.

I’m really, really scared of the sexualization of the characters in “In A Heartbeat”. I know how all these Tumblr straighties sexualize gay men like there’s no tomorrow, so now that we have a piece of media that focuses on the romance aspect of a gay relationship, I’m very fearful for these monsters to ruin it.

For what it’s worth, from a perspective of a gay man, I find the sentiments in the notes very vexing. Having grown up a closeted teenager, I can tell you that being gay as a teenager is not just fluttery hearts and pining and awkward kisses. In fact, that’s almost as far from reality as it gets. What it is more like are constant and inconvenient fucking boners and wet dreams and fantasizing about hot guys you’re crushing on and other hormonal bullshit. It is a deeply and inherently sexual experience and this purity culture built, in vast majority, by people who likely have had no inkling of what such experiences entail because way more often than not they happen to be straight girls, in order to valiantly protect a younger version of me from what essentially is my own sexuality feels both patronizing and even straight-up homophobic.

Modern western culture has always been more comfortable with violence than sex, and that’s just wrong. Think about how many fictionalized murders, fistfights, and other acts of violence a typical person witnesses–in all sorts of media–before they reach 16. Yet somehow society is ok with that, but not ok with sensuality. That’s utterly backasswards.

Nobody’s saying “teenage relationships aren’t sexual”. They’re saying “hey, let’s not draw porn of underage characters”.
