The most important tool in an artist’s trade is a bunch of old towels that you have complete carte blanche to stain or rip up. 

This is the truest of things. For any physical media- watercolor is at least 70% dabbing your brush onto paper or cotton towel to control waterflow, turpentine rags for oils, the washcloth you keep around to get the flakes off pencils, blending rags for graphite…

though I imagine having a towel to tear to pieces is very helpful for digital too.

Good for houseplants, too.
