Bastion, I believe I have some worn circuits located in my lower back. It is nothing serious, but they slow my reaction times somewhat in this state. May I ask you to take a look at them with your repair arm? – Orisa
I believe there may be some wires that needs to be replaced, but I am not entirely sure which ones as I cannot reach or see that part of my back.
uum wwell, bastion got soem spare part! ssure can fix!
Bastion hesitated before gently using their repair arm to detach a panel from the small of Orisa’s back. Being so close to Orisa was making Bastion feel uncomfortably warm. If they were still human, the back of their neck would be prickling with sweat.
Despite Torbjorn being back on base (and far more qualified to do repair work), Orisa had gone to them. Did that mean something, or was Bastion looking too deeply into a simple, innocent request?
But this felt oddly intimate, as Bastion peered at Orisa’s wires. Like those scenes in old romantic comedies where the girl asks someone to zip up her dress, and hands linger just a little bit longer than they should…
Bastion shook their head. They should not be daydreaming about romance. They should be doing what their friend Orisa asked.
ookay, can sese a few wwire need replace, wilkl do quick. mmay feeel tickel.
Bastion tried very hard to stop their hands from shaking. They didn’t want to hurt Orisa, or worse, break something important.
It was …strange to be exposed like this, Orisa thought to herself as Bastion replaced the few wires that had almost lost their insulation completely. Not that it was an urgent matter, but better to have them replaced sooner than later. Besides, Bastions repair arm was practically made for doing stuff like this. That and she guessed that they were used to this kind of maintenance on themselves, what with how old they actually were. Sure, they had only recently become self-aware, but she was surprised that they had held together for as long as they had.
She waited patiently until she could no longer feel Bastions repair arm and turned her head. She watched as they put the panel back and-
Bastion, are you overheating?
Bastion really tried their best to focus whilst replacing Orisa’s wires, but all that was going through their mind was something akin to holy heck am touching orisa’s waist aaaaa no stop bastion don’t do a weird oh no what if damage something oh no oh no just change wire aaaa heck bastion don’t know what am doing help why she so cute why this happen to bastion- or something.
Thankfully, Orisa’s tune-up went without issue, Bastion’s internal panicking aside. They delicately (as delicately as Bastion could, anyway) replaced Orisa’s panel – if it were still possible for Bastion to hold their breath, they would be doing so – and then they heard Orisa’s voice.
Bastion was about to reply with a mortified and defensive nO, but they were interrupted by a cloud of steam suddenly erupting from one of their gaskets.
How embarrassing.
She didn’t want to say it out loud, but she feared that overheating may cause serious damage to their core functions, especially since they were an older model. While they may have been state-of-the-art before the crisis, that was no longer the case. Looking at them, she felt a pang of concern for her… friend? She had not thought about their condition at all before, so why now?
Bastion, is there something wrong with your cooling systems?
nnnnoeyssmaybeuuummmmmm
And then Bastion gracefully faceplanted onto the floor.
