A reminder to all of the mentally ill kids seeking treatment and other people new to the psych system:

If you absolutely hate going to your therapist, you have the wrong therapist

If you feel like your therapist doesn’t understand you, has misdiagnosed you, or is focusing on the wrong things, you have the wrong therapist

If your therapist is too old to understand the things you’re going through, like cyberbullying or LGBT related issues, you have the wrong therapist

If you feel like therapy isn’t working for you, YOU HAVE THE WRONG THERAPIST!

I went through five therapists before finding mine. FIVE. Sometimes it takes a while to find someone who works for you, but you do NOT have to be stuck with a therapist you don’t enjoy seeing or you don’t feel is helping you!

this exactly. sometimes you have to go through a few therapists or so before finding the right one. i had to go through a couple before i found one i really liked.

this also applies to medication. if you’re put on medication and it isn’t helping and/or you think it’s making things worse, making you really sick, etc, talk to your psychiatrist and consider trying different medications. meds work differently for different people. like one of my meds i’ve been taking for years is paxil and it’s helped A LOT but i’ve also met people who said paxil didn’t do anything for them. i used to take trazadone but it knocked me out and made me sick for like two days, and i met people who told me trazadone didn’t have any effect on them.

point is: if you’re uncomfortable with something involving your mental health, don’t bite your tongue. talk to your healthcare providers about changing things. don’t be afraid or ashamed! find what works and helps you the best!

and don’t give up! you deserve to have help and good quality care, even if it takes a few tries to get to the right providers or medications. DON’T GIVE UP! you deserve to be happy and you are worth the effort!
