You know what’s creepier than yet another “they’re a villain because they’re insane and/or greedy/evil and happen to also be insane” supervillain?

The rational ones.

The ones who aren’t hurting people because their mind forces them to. The ones who are hurting people just because they want to. The ones who are truly, genuinely malicious, without any excuse or reason.

Not to mention that constantly portraying mentally ill people as villains is, y’know, not a great thing.

Kinda wanna see something with a superhero who’s somewhat mentally unstable, portrayed accurately and in a positive light (not in that “my mental illness makes me a special magical snowflake” way, the “this mentally ill person isn’t a freak or a monster” way), and is up against a perfectly rational villain.

Yes, this

I love villains, and anti-heroes who do what they do because they enjoy it, or because they can. And they do it well.

Give me a villain who does their thing as a side project, or to amuse themselves. Someone who really just don’t care about the damage they inflict, not really, because they enjoy being the bad guy.

Whoops, just destroyed most of a town in a scuffle with this newly proclaimed hero, that was fun, same time next week?
Not now, dear, I’m having fun crushing this annoyance.
Ohoho, well aren’t you interesting? So much spark, and fight still left in you. Lets take out that rage and hurt and fear and play with it shall we?

Give me heroes who make mistakes, who don’t know what they’re doing, who mess up and realize that and it mucks with their heads. Give me heroes who are trying to do the right thing and mess everything up

Heroes who come out of nowhere, out of nothing and have no back up, no power, just their wits and battle strategies from playing rpg games

Heroes who come out of a building and are afraid, hurt, bruised, bloody and broken. Have them pick up a piece of piping or a handful of pebbles and grit and throw it into the enemies face.

Heroes who lay awake and night shaking with fear and memories replaying in their head of the ones they couldn’t save.

Give me the people who have no idea what they are doing but do it because they have nothing left. The ones who fight private battles everyday with themselves and the world at large, and now they have someone else to fight, and they throw themselves into the battle with everything they have because that’s the only way they know how to survive.
